CHAMP Examiners are Counsilman-Hunsaker’s front-line aquatic program evaluation and training delivery individuals. CHAMP Examiners provide CHAMP services to aquatic facilities across the country. The feedback CHAMP Examiners provide assists aquatic facility operators in making their aquatic facilities safer and more sustainable. A CHAMP Examiner carries the complete responsibility of individual assignments from on-site evaluations to final report delivery. The CHAMP Examiner shall follow the project workflow to ensure the completion of all company protocols for documentation, communication, and quality control. Role and Responsibilities

  • Conducting annual operations assessments and reviewing aquatic facility documentation related to lifeguard operations.
  • Evaluating lifeguard performance in surveillance and emergency response skills through on-site lifeguarding observation and evaluations.
  • Recording video of on-duty lifeguards in an undercover capacity and while lifeguards demonstrate skills.
  • Preparing and maintaining reports, records, and completing evaluation forms, as required.
  • Identifying and communicating areas where aquatic facilities can improve lifeguarding operations and performance.
  • Conducting drills, including aquatic emergency action plan drills, lifeguard response time testing, and live recognition drills.
  • Conducting lifeguarding classes, preseason training and lifeguard orientation, and in-service training sessions.
  • Assisting Counsilman-Hunsaker Project Managers and Directors with providing documentation and consultation to facility management, risk management associations, and American Red Cross.
  • Providing mentorship to new CHAMP Examiners-in-training.
  • Providing or relaying innovative feedback for the continual improvement of the Aquatic Management Program.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred, not required)
  • Minimum - 3 years’ experience; Preferred - 5 years’ experience
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED For the Professional Rescue and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification
  • Preferred – Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer Certification

  • Proficiency in using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with full responsibility.
  • Articulate professional written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Industry certifications including pool operation
